Yelas returns west

After 17 years, Jay Yelas has left Texas. He and his family moved back to the West Coast, and unpacked at their new home in Corvallis, Ore. last Friday. He said it's something he and his wife Jill have wanted for a while, and the time was finally right.

About his new place of residence, he said: "It feels great. This place (Oregon) has always felt like home to me. Jill's from here – all of her family's here – and I've spent a lot of time here since childhood. When we got back here, we had a sort of family reunion – that makes you feel good. And for an outdoorsman like me, this place is paradise. A lot of people who've never been to Oregon have no idea what it's like."

His original migration to Texas was a "career move," when he "left home to chase the dream" of being a pro fisherman.

"I've always loved Texas," he added. "I've met a lot of great people there. It's just never felt like home."
