Balog catches 25, pushes lead to 3-plus

Joe Balog caught a tournament-best 25-02 today and held onto the lead at the Lake St. Clair Bassmaster Northern Open.

Balog, who has 47-10 through 2 days, now has a cushion of 3-12 over Chad Pipkens, who bagged 22-08 today to push his total to 43-14.

A forecast for Saturday is calling for a turnaround in the wind — from the southwest to the northwest — and it has Balog concerned.

“I’m really fishing something ‘off the wall,’ and I’m concerned what the wind change might do to my fish,” he said.

Chris Johnston sacked 22-00 and sits in 3rd with 43-12.

With one day of competition remaining, here are the 12 anglers who will fish on Saturday:

1. Joe Balog: 47-10
2. Chad Pipkens: 43-14
3. Chris Johnston: 43-12
4. Ben Nielsen: 42-13
