Lake Mead's an unpredictable fishery to say the least, especially when it comes to tournaments. An angler could wade through hundreds of cookie-cutter fish in 4 days, then happen upon a 4-plus-pounder. Or an angler might target big fish and match most limits with just two fish a day.
Then there's the wind, which can turn the desert impoundment into a tempest-torn inland ocean.
There was some of all of that last week at the Mead Western FLW Series. Wind kept some of the pros from accessing their fish at least part of the time. But just as disastrous for some were the slicked-over conditions that followed.
