I remember when fluorocarbon line first came to the bass market. Some of the lines could be described as brittle and others were so stiff they could stand up by themselves easier than they could be spooled onto a reel.

Since that time numerous companies have improved their offerings in this category. The last several years I have used fluorocarbon almost exclusively on my spinning reels and have several applications for them on my baitcasting reels as well, and I've had favorable results. So when I received Sunline’s Super FC Sniper line in 16-pound test, it was time to go fishing.

For this test I spooled the Sunline Sniper on an Abu Garcia Orra baitcast reel on a 7'3" Veritas medium-heavy rod to fish cover like stumps and thick weed growth that included hydrilla and other dense vegetation. The first thing I noticed is that the FC Sniper not only lays easily on a spool but how thin the diameter of the line is: 16-pound Sniper has a standard diameter 33 hundredths of an inch and looks more like the 12-pound test of some other line manufacturers.

It was on the first cast that I noticed I was fishing a different kind of line, and fter a full day of fishing, I could say this was the smoothest-casting and easiest-managing fluorocarbon line I had ever used.

Sunline is very strict on its quality control and has invested considerable time and resources to make sure it's are using the best in manufacturing and equipment available to ensure quality. A Japanese company established in 1977, Sunline produces every conceivable type of fishing line. The company’s concept is to develop a thinner and stronger fishing line.

The FC Sniper has both of those qualities and I was even more impressed with the abrasion-resistance. For such a thin line, it was as strong as nails and after a full day, it had held up extremely well.

I boated numerous fish during the test including a 5 1/2-pound largemouth that had me wrapped around the post of an old, wooden duck house. The FC Sniper held up to that bass and more without even a nick.

Sunline’s FC Sniper is 100% fluorocarbon and is triple resin-coated, which explains the soft and supple handling. It not only has excellent abrasion-resistance, but a low memory and uniform line diameter. I expect this will all result in longer life and usage.

The line comes in a natural clear color and sizes range from 2- to 20-pound test. A 200-yard spool ranges in price from $24.99 to $28.99 and 660-yard spools are available from $59.99-$79.99 retail.

Sunline’s FC Sniper is an exceptional line that I will be adding to my arsenal. The castability, abrasion-resistance and manageability are above other lines that I've been using. The diameter is smaller, which not only makes lure-control easier, but adds to the feel and sensitivity of the line.
