Veritas is a Spanish word that means true. In English it translates to veritable – also meaning true, as in "a veritable success."

And success is exactly what Abu Garcia achieves with its Veritas – the newest addition to the "V" series of rods.

I've caught over 100 bass, including a 6-pound, 22-inch pre-spawn female, on several Veritas lengths and actions. I've put these rods to the test with several different combinations of reels, lures and lines and each time, the results were impressive.

Graphite Rework

These days, every rod company out there wants the lightest rod possible. That's great, but not if the tradeoff means a decrease in balance and strength. Instead, Abu's use of nanotechnology, which manipulates graphite at an atomic level, means a rod can incorporate lightweight design alongside balance and compression.

What that means to you and I: Veritas rods are designed to stand up to nicks and abrasions that can cause other rods to fail under pressure. The result is an extremely well-balanced, lightweight rod that you can really lean into to land even the biggest bass.

Along with strength and weight advantages, the series offers a strong selection of lengths and actions, which should continue to grow. As of now, 13 models (five spinning, eight casting) are available with five different handle configurations.

Advantages Add Up

Veritas rods utilize 30-ton graphite construction, and as noted, the nanotechnology results in decreased weight and increased compression strength.

The one-piece double-anodized aluminum screwdown makes for a very secure reel-to-rod connection. The EVA handles are quite comfortable, and paired with the exposed reel seat, there's better blank contact and thus better sensitivity.

The Titanium guides with SiC inserts add to the lightweight, superior balanced blank design.

Final Thoughts

I was truly impressed with these rods and I'll be using a number of them this season. Veritas rods have some of the truest bass actions I've seen from a mass-produced rod series in a long time. They possess the make and feel of a much more expensive rod, but are very affordable for even the budget-conscious consumer.

Abu Garcia has done an excellent job on the creation of its Veritas rods. I can only hope Abu adds to this lineup with even more rod lengths and actions. The company has a veritable winner on its hands.
