Could this Evinrude closing be the beginning of the end for the fishing industry? $80,000 dollar bass boats price yourself right out of business. It had to happen. If a company would come up with an affordable quality boat and motor it would make money!

RE: Evinrude ceases outboard production – Very sad day. Evinrude outboards have been a part of my whole life. They may be gone, but never forgotten. I wish all of the affected BRP employees, their dealer network and the fishermen well. I'm very sorry for your loss. I've got an E-TEC on my boat and I love that motor. I'm sure this is just the beginning of many more iconic companies in our fishing world to go down.

RE: #BassDayEver – Nearly 30 ago I worked out of town with a man who was to be my father-in-law. We came back from Ohio and wanted to go fish. Mid April on Lake Murray and not knowing what to throw, we stopped at a local bait store for the scoop. Tie on a lizard was the info. My FIL did just that. I was in love with the floating worm and how amazing the strikes were.

We started near a favorite spot and went to work. My first couple of casts landed me a 5-pounder by working it 2 feet below the surface. My FIL quickly switched and we began boating fish. They looked as if they were coming off beds and hungry, all spawned out. We proceeded to boat several nice fish.

I went to a spot where I had missed one earlier and FIL threw in and boated a 6.5 pig. I netted it and my next cast by a dock pole the water boiled and I set the hook into what I thought was a 10-pound-plus giant. When I pulled her out of the net it looked as if she had shrunk on the back half of her body. Obviously a post-spawner. She still weighed in at 8.5.

We caught the limit that day and weighed in 10 fish at 46.2 pounds. The five biggest were 8.5, 6.5, 5.1, 4.2 and 3.9 for a total of 28.2 pounds of Lake Murray bass. Haven't topped it since, but have pushed it a couple of times. I still catch them on the same type floater, have been for 30 years!

RE: FLW "super tournaments" – Regardless of who's playing, man up. You still got to catch 'em.

  • Paul Wallace of Cambridge City, IN writes:

Yep, get rid of the flip-flops and put some Crocs on! Crocs and sandals are perfect for hot days on the boat.

  • Robert Ryan of Pensacola, FL writes:

I agree totally about the flip-flops. For some reason it annoys me to no end. It’s one reason I root for Jason Christie, Skeet Reese and G-Man – they always wear shoes.

  • Dennis Pentecost of Milford, IL writes:

My pet peeve about pro fishermen: Throw away those damn flip-flops and put on some shoes!

RE: Balog on Florida-strain stocking – In my experience fishing all over the USA, Florida bass are much tougher to catch and affected by cold fronts more than the northern bass. I can catch them, it just takes more effort and I am okay with it, but if you want to “grow the sport” it may be better to make fishing easier for the masses.

RE: #Bass Day Ever – For me it's a tie. A trip to Falcon and an 11.07 largemouth and so many other big fish. My other one would have to be the trip I won to fish with KVD in northern Michigan. Got my 6-pound smallmouth on that trip and had a 28-pound-plus bag of smallmouth (best five) with Up North Guide Service. Both unbelievable trips.

RE: FLW "super tournaments" – Imagine that, MLF/FLW changing the rules again as they go along. The whole issue of these guys going to MLF was because of no entry fees, why the change? Is it a money grab? Or is it these guys are finally realizing they aren't making any money at MLF? My opinion is that it's not fair to allow these MLF guys to jump on board and fish the FLW circuit. Are they going to allow FLW guys to jump over and fish the remaining MLF events? I doubt it. Why don't you just let the marbles fall where they may and keep the guys on their own tours?

RE: MLF trick shots – The best trick-cast artist I ever experienced in person was Mr. Jim Rogers. He was truly amazing.

  • Jacob Kramer of Orlando, FL writes:

RE: FLW "super tournaments" – Call it what it is, a money grab. And I’m okay with it as long as the FLW anglers were fine with it. Many of these guys are going broke.
