RE: Balog on the "hard sell" – It takes independent funding, and is the reason I was able to produce just science episodes for Fish Code Studios, just sharing knowledge, not selling anything, shunning sponsors. A lot of people subscribed for just a dozen episodes. It takes more time than I have, though!

RE: Balog on the "hard sell" – I completely agree with your article. I worked in the fishing tackle shops for about 5 years. Now I am a boat captain for a high school fishing team and also tournament-fish myself. I think it is limiting the amount of people entering the sport due to the fact that they think they need a new boat with four depthfinders. That's what I hear from the high school kids. That's not where I started (16-foot Cimarron with a 60 hp outboard). Keep up the great articles.

RE: Yelas enters Hall – Congrats, making any HOF is an accomplishment. It is a tribute to the type of person you are. Well done!

RE: Commercial bass farms – First, a little background. I’ve been farming fish since 1969. Started my own farm in 1982 (catfish). There’s no way raising bass can be profitable. I’ve never heard of anyone having any luck getting bass to eat commercial feed. If some the fish get a little larger than their siblings, they will turn on them. You would constantly have to harvest and grade to keep sizes similar. Not to mention escaped fish mixing with local populations. I don’t think that would be a problem, but you never know. Why take the the chance? Oh, don’t blame farmers for the silver carp. It was the Arkansas Game and Fish that let their ponds flood.

RE: Commercial bass farms – Farm away. As long as state and federal fisheries managers and others preserve the integrity of our natural resource while continuing to promote the sport of fishing, I see no problem.

RE: Bassmaster redfish event – I think that's pretty bad to stick Elite Series guys with redfish guys. There are most likely tons of Redfish tour guys who would've loved to fish this. Give the guys who did this for a living the opportunity, not people who will help push something that 75% of the fishing community won't ever pay attention to.
