Christie wins another Open

FLW Tour pro Jason Christie won his second Bassmaster Open of 2012 on Saturday, catching a 15-15 sack to top the field in a Central event at Fort Gibson Lake in his home state of Oklahoma. He won a Northern Open at the Detroit River earlier this summer to gain a berth in the 2013 Classic, but no Classic slot will accompany this win as he did not compete in all three events on the Central circuit.

His 40-15 total for 3 days was slightly less than 2 pounds better than runner-up Kevin Short. None of his fish came from water that was more than 2 feet deep.

“I knew a lot of guys would be looking deeper, but deep-water bass just aren’t as reliable for me," he said. "You catch ‘em today, and they’re gone tomorrow.

“I’m an old-school bass fisherman. I don’t carry a lot of different baits in my boat. This week I used three baits to catch all my bass: an old Rebel Wee-R crankbait, a Heddon One Knocker Spook and a Yum Wooly Bug.”

Full details of his winning pattern will be published soon.
