Auburn’s Lee tops brother for Classic berth

Matt and Jordan Lee have fished countless times together, in and out of competitive settings. Never before had they fished against each other with so much on the line. This time, there had to be a winner and a loser.

Matt Lee caught two bass that weighed 5-06 to capture the individual title at the B.A.S.S. College Series Bassmaster Classic Bracket today. He beat younger brother Jordan, who caught two fish for 2-04, to earn a berth in next year’s Classic.

The two students at Auburn University had teamed up to finish to second to Oklahoma State on Friday in the team competition. On Saturday, they advanced through the individual brackets to reach today’s final, a 4-hour morning shootout at Beaverfork Lake, a 960-acre lake just north of Little Rock, Ark.

Not only did the brothers have the added emotion of fishing against each for a spot in the Classic, they had to endure grueling heat as temperatures throughout the week hovered around or above 100 degrees.
