New Aussie record

A new Australian Bass Tour (ABT) record for heaviest fish was set today when 66-year-old Peter Morgan caught an 8.02-pounder at Lake Somerset in Queensland. Steve Morgan, who runs the ABT, said the angler has been fishing the circuit for about a decade.

The fish (click the photo to see a larger image) bit a soft-plastic bait attached to a 1/2-ounce jighead. Steve Morgan explained that the "mini-swimbaits" are slow-rolled in 30 to 40 feet of water by anglers targeting suspended bass.
