B.A.S.S. announced today via its website that the organization and Nate Wellman have "mutually agreed" that Wellman will not fish this week's Oneida Bassmaster Northern Open and he thus will not be eligible for the 2012 Bassmaster Classic. Wellman has been the subject of great controversy for several weeks after he allegedly attempted to "buy" a fish from his co-angler en route to winning the Northern Open at Erie last month.
Reached by telephone shortly after the announcement, Wellman declined comment on the decision. "I'm just going to leave things where they are and try to move on," he said.
