Kelly Pratt of nearby Williamsburg, Va. caught a 16-06 sack Thursday to grab the early lead at the James River Bassmaster Northern Open. He reported that he caught the majority of his weight from a single log.
“After I caught ’em from there, I just went practicing and made a few casts all over the place,” he said. “However, if it clouds up and rains tomorrow, it’ll scatter ’em, and I’ll have to run and hunt even more.”
He holds a 1-ounce lead over former FLW Tour pro Tracy Adams, who qualified for the 2011 Bassmaster Classic via last year's Northern Opens.
