A couple of bills that could affect tournament anglers in different parts of the country have been passed by their respective state legislatures and now await only the signatures of governors to become laws.
In Wisconsin, the much-heralded "culling bill" has gone to the desk of Gov. Scott Walker and could be signed at any time. It would give bass tournaments an exemption to the state's Draconian prohibition of culling and will undoubtedly attract more large-scale tournaments to the state.
Meanwhile, down in Texas, a bill has been unanimously passed by the State Senate that could send tournament cheaters to prison, depending on the amount of money that's at stake. Its sponsor, Sen. Glenn Hegar, referenced the 2009 Robby Rose case as an example of why such a law is needed in an article in the New York Times.
