Menendez throwing with Lew's

Lew's was long one of the premier names in fishing. Its cutting-edge baitcasters time and again set new standards for innovation and quality. In fact, the late Lew Childre is credited with several advancements including the low-profile design, a palming side-cover and disengaging levelwind.

The brand sat relatively idle for a while, but it's back in a big way with the introduction of six new reels alongside a new and growing pro staff.

More on the new Lew's reels in coming weeks, but today the company announced it signed Mark Menendez to its pro staff. (Menendez was the subject of a feature story today on BassFan.)

Menendez reminisced a little when he announced the new sponsor deal.

"There are several important career highlights that a Lew's Speed Spool helped me accomplish," Menendez said. "Qualifying for the Bassmaster BP Top 100s, catching the largest bass in the first 31 years of B.A.S.S., making my first Bassmaster Classic and earning my first Bassmaster win were all earned with a Lew's Speed Spool on my rod. I'm so proud and honored to be part of the Lew's team and associated with the tradition of the Lew's name. I'd love to know how many miles of line I've cast with a Lew's."

Lynn Reeves of Lew's noted, "We're extremely proud to be working with Mark. He brings an outstanding knowledge of product and history to the Lew's family. He's been fishing at the highest level of competitive angling for 20 years. We're confident that the new lineup of Lew's Speed Spool and Speed Spin reels will give him the extra edge."
