Guard grabs walleye

More good news for the FLW Walleye Tour. Not only will next year's Tour return to a four-event televised format with a no-entry-fee championship, but the National Guard has stepped up as title sponsor, which should signal a beefier purse.

No purse details were released with the announcement, but FLW Outdoors noted that 2011 Walleye Tour details are forthcoming, including solid info on paybacks, entry fees, rules and registration dates.

In announcing the title-sponsorship, FLW Outdoors marketing president Trisha Blake stated: "We couldn't be more proud of our longstanding partnership with the National Guard. The impact that they've had on the sport of fishing has been tremendous and we look forward to further leveraging our relationship in 2011, including the further development and growth of the soldier-appreciation tournaments held in conjunction with FLW Outdoors events."

Appreciation events are held in conjunction with Tour events and offer opportunities for soldiers, veterans and families.

National Guard Lt. Col. Jacob Kulzer added: "FLW Outdoors is a great partner with us and we feel the organization reflects the values that are important to the Guard – duty, loyalty, honesty, integrity and honor. We're excited about the opportunities that will be afforded to soldiers and getting them involved and the families a part of it. We're seeing the growth at each and every tournament and we're real excited about being involved and the future this program has to offer."

As noted several times previously, the sport is waiting for news of FLW's 2011 bass offerings – specifically, entry-fee and purse structure.
