Roosevelt weights

Yesterday was day 1 of the Roosevelt Western FLW Series. Sure, this remote lake north of Phoenix, Ariz. is no Delta or Clear Lake, but after a devastating drought over the past decade, the lake's now just 6 feet below capacity and the bite's certainly come a long way. A look at the standings shows that although a limit was difficult for most, plenty of 3-plus-pounders came to the stage.

California pro Jeff Michels leads the event with 13-15. Tour pro Brent Ehrler's a single ounce behind him.

There were nine bags over 10 pounds and 22 bags at 9 pounds or better.

Another interesting note: Former tour pro Mark Kile dusted off his gear and entered the event. He lives in nearby Payson and actually runs a mini-storage facility and guide service at Roosevelt. Kile was 56th after day 1 with a 5 1/2-pound limit.
