Gober wins, Glasgow AOY

Gober wins, Glasgow AOY

When her primary river spot produced a bagel on Saturday, Georgia's Laura Gober (left) went to plan "B" and boxed a limit to win the Red River Women's Bassmaster Tour by 4 1/2 pounds.

"Last year at Dardanelle I was in the Top 6, but bombed there this year, so it's great to come here and finish off the year with a win," she said. "I live on Lake Lanier, which is deep and clear. When I got here Friday and saw the river, I said, 'No way,' not here. I thought I might as well turn around and go home because I'm not used to anything like what I saw on the Red River. Then I decided to search for clear water, and found some, but couldn't get a bite. But I knew bass were in the river, so I went looking for places nobody else was."

The details of her winning pattern will be published soon. And since this was the last event of the season, the Women's Angler of the Year title was decided, and it went to Oklahoma’s Sheri Glasgow (right).

"It's one of the highest honors a person can have," Glasgow said. "The emotions of winning this award are crazy. You can do well in individual tournaments and be consistent all year long, but to be the points leader at the end of the year is a hard thing to do. Any girl's capable of showing up and winning these tournaments and it's a struggle every day you compete. I wasn't looking at the whole season together – I was looking at each tournament specifically. I had to break it down per day and mentally that made it seem easier. Being versatile enough each day to make changes was key."
