Morgenthaler's 'Special' event

For the second year in a row, FLW Tour pro Chad Morgenthaler has teamed with Special Olympics Illinois to host a charity event. The 2nd Annual Chad Morgenthaler Bass Tournament, supported by Jasper Engines & Transmissions and the Franklin County Tourism Bureau, is slated for Sept. 23–24 on Rend Lake in Illinois.

The weekend includes a 2-day team-format tournament, beat-the-pro fishing contest with Morgenthaler and other pros, plus chances to win great prizes.

Morgenthaler became involved with Special Olympics Illinois during 2005, when he donated a day-long fishing trip as part of an online auction sponsored by the organization. That experience led to Morgenthaler's interest in hosting a charity tournament for the organization.

"I was inspired by the courage and enthusiasm shown by the Special Olympics athletes," he said. "After talking more with Special Olympics Illinois, we agreed a fishing tournament would be an exciting way to introduce the organization and its athletes to a previously untapped audience of fishermen. Immediately after last year's tournament, fishermen were asking us when the next one would be. We hope to make it the largest charity fishing event in the state in the future."

The field is capped at 150 boats. Entry costs $200 until Sept. 14, after which entry costs $210. Registration is Fri., Sept. 21 from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m., with a pre-tournament meeting at 6:00 p.m. Rend Lake Sailboat Harbor is the launch site for the tournament.
