Hirosky stoked

After three straight finishes of no better than 83rd, Pennsylvania Bassmaster Elite Series pro Paul Hirosky is glad to be back at Lake Champlain this week. The Channellock-sponsored angler was 12th there last year – the best finish of his 2-year pro career.

“I’m really excited to start the tournament,” he said on Wednesday, the final practice day for the event. “The fishing here is tougher this year, but I’m hoping things will work my way.”

He'll make the 70-mile jaunt to Ticonderoga at the south end of the lake.

“A lot of anglers are struggling with the north-end smallmouth bite, and they’re starting to move south,” he said. “Obviously, that creates a lot of pressure on the rest of us.

"Last year, I went to the other end of the lake to get away from the pressure. It’s a calculated risk, but I’m hoping it pays off.”

His best finish this year was 39th in the season opener at Amistad.
