Costa offering fantasy camp for student anglers

FLW announced recently that it will partner with Costa to present a High School Fishing Summer Camp this summer at Kentucky Lake.

The event is scheduled for July 18-21 and will be based at the Murray State University campus. The camp is designed for serious high school anglers, parents and coaches who want to learn through first-hand interactions with some of the biggest names in the sport.

Campers will learn tips from pro anglers and industry executives related to on- and off-water scenarios to better prepare them for a successful future in the sport.

Anglers expected to appear are Forrest Wood Cup winners Scott Martin and Justin Atkins, along with reigning FLW Tour Angler of the Year Bryan Thrift and three-time AOY Andy Morgan. Former Bassmaster Classic winner Casey Ashley will also be on site to provide instruction on a variety of topics.

"The high school fishing camp is our way of contributing to the future of the sport through education and networking opportunities for the students," said Melinda Hays, Costa Bass Community Leader. "The skills offered during camp will help build leadership qualities for these youth both on and off the water."

Among the topics to be covered will be boating safety, seasonal techniques, electronics usage, lure and rod building, equipment basics, fish care and off-the-water necessities like building a social media following, career exploration and resume building for the outdoors industry. Courses offered for parents/coaches will include best practices for sanctioned teams, optimizing individual and team performance, career readiness and fish care at weigh-ins.

“The Costa FLW High School Fishing Summer Camp has got to be the coolest summer camp experience that I have ever heard of,” Atkins said. “The knowledge and experience that these young anglers are going to receive in three-days is priceless. I wish that I had the opportunity to attend a summer camp like this when I was starting out. It’s going to be a very fun week on Kentucky Lake.”

Camp registration will open soon and run through June 30. Registration cost is $250 per person and covers lodging, meals and accomodations at Murray State. For more information, visit bit.ly/CostaHSFishingCamp.

At the conclusion of the camp, a fundraising tournament will be held to benefit the victims of the shooting that occured at Marshall County High School in Benton, Ky., in January. The tournament is slated for July 21 at Kentucky Lake. Entry fee is $200 per boat/kayak. One camper will be chosen to fish alongside Martin in the tournament.
