Evers more relaxed

What's up with Edwin Evers and the Bassmaster Classic? The super-stick is currently No. 5 in the BassFan World Rankings, but his five Classic finishes are 31st, 41st, 52nd, 38th then 6th (last year at Pittsburgh). Pretty unspectacular.

He said the poor finishes were because he swings for the fences in every Classic. "You're not always going to have very high finishes when you're doing that kind of thing. I did the same thing at Pittsburgh and it finally paid off." He also said he was nervous at past Classics and felt the pressure, which likely contributed to the poor finishes too.

So how does he feel about this Classic? "It can't get any worse – I can only go up from here. I'm more relaxed, big-time. The more of these you go to, the more relaxed you get. And I'm approaching (Toho) as a brand new lake. I'm not fishing any water I've ever fished here before – I'm trying to fish completely new water."

He spent his practice time on Hatchineha and Kissimmee and doesn't know where he'll start. But he said the setup is "ideal" for him because he likes power-fishing, and he thinks the tournament could be won in an area. That's one of his strengths – finding something and sticking with it – and he's won that way before.

"I think you can win this tournament on a stretch of bank," he said. "If you can find 700 to 800 yards of good spawning bank, I think you can sit there for 3 days and pluck all the fish off it you can."

Sounds great, except there's a bit of anxiety going in. His Nitro jersey is en route, but he doesn't have it yet. "A bunch of us (Nitro pros) are really nervous about it," he noted.
