Ike amped, wants revenge

After last year's Bassmaster Classic at Pittsburgh, Pa., Mike Iaconelli was more than a little miffed. He wasn't happy with his performance or his 5th-place finish, and let a few minor expletives fly at the news conference. He's had 7 months to stew on that finish, and now that the Classic's a few days away, he's pumped up for potential redemption.

"I feel awesome," he said. "I'm obviously stoked for a lot of reasons. First thing is, we're here in Florida, the weather's beautiful and the fish are moving up. That means we'll be power-fishing, and I love that fact.

"The other thing is I'm really more pumped on this Classic than any other, ever. The last Classic was so close, and that's so fresh in my mind – that disappointment. I've got that taste in my mouth for revenge and I can't wait to get out there and fish. I'm pretty excited."

And he recently signed a new sponsor – HOOAH! energy bars. "It's another deal that's come up that's a little non-traditional – outside the fishing market," he said. "And it's something you need out there. It's not one of those sponsors like a dog-food company when you don't even own a dog. I fish 8- to 10-hour days, and I don't eat a lot out there. The best thing to do is bring some energy bars – it keeps my energy up throughout the day."

Did you know? Berkley Gulp! baits dissolve in just 9 months or less if left in the water, but are as durable on the hook as plastic baits.
