Polygraphs back

BASS announced recently that it will reinstate the option of using polygraph tests at its tournaments this year following a 3-year absence.

BASS tournament director Trip Weldon said there was no specific incident that prompted the reinstatement. "Our interest is in protecting the integrity of the tournaments and dealing with allegations of irregularities," he said in a BASS release. "As the worldwide authority on bass fishing, we want to be as accurate as possible when conducting tournaments."

Weldon said in the release that the polygraph will be used only in cases in which an angler is accused of a rule violation. He said it was used only about six times over a 12-year period preceding its elimination in 2002.
