BassFan Walter Oppelt of Frankfort, Ind. wrote in asking about what gear Skeet Reese uses to fish the new 1-ounce Terminator spinnerbait he designed. Here's what Skeet said.
"Walter, I prefer to fish this bait with a Lamiglas SR705. It's a 7-foot medium-heavy-action rod. You need to make sure that you have a rod that has plenty of backbone to it, but also a soft tip. You need the backbone so that you can cast it, but also to penetrate the hook when you get bit. The soft tip allows you to be more accurate when casting, and to have a better feel of the bait.
"As far as line, I prefer to use Trilene Sensation most of the time. When fishing deep, clear water I usually use 14-pound test. The shallower I go and the dirtier the water gets, the heavier line I use, such as 20-pound-test.
"If I'm going to slowroll this bait in submerged grass in 5-15 feet of water, then I'll use 30-pound SpiderWire Stealth. The reason is so that I can rip the grass off the bait a lot easier, and it allows me to be a lot more efficient with each cast. Just remember that when using SpiderWire that you don't set the hook as hard.
"Good luck."
