In an article published this week on the ESPN-owned FiveThirtyEight website, Manabu Kurita claims he has seen a 25-pound largemouth bass swimming in the waters of Lake Biwa in Japan.
The article, entitled "How Fishing Pros Finally Caught George Perry’s Miracle Bass" and written by David Goldenberg, explores anglers' obsession with the pursuit of Perry's world-record bass. Kurita is prominently mentioned as he matched Perry's mark of 22-04 with a fish caught at Biwa in 2009.
It's well known that the Japanese government views black bass as a nuisance species and is taking steps to eradicate them, which would make Kurita's revelation all the more impressive.
