Big Bite Lookback – Mississippi River

Greg Vinson finished 2 ounces out of the 12-cut at the Mississippi River Bassmaster Elite Series. The Alabamian known as "the Rooster" for his bright red hair doesn't know what else he could've done to make up that miniscule margin.

"I'd like to have gotten one more 3-pound bite and I would've been in there just fine," he said. "I think I was in the type of area that any second I could've gotten it, but it just didn't happen.

"I was really just at the mercy of the bites I got. That was the nature of that tournament."

He threw a frog on day 1, but the violent winds on day 2 forced him to pitch a creature bait. He said that presentation ended up accounting for about half of his weigh-in fish for the tournament.

He caught his biggest fish of the event, a 4-pounder, on day 3. However, his average bite was smaller that day and he weighed his lightest bag of the derby (13-05).

His showing moved him up to No. 21 in the Angler of the Year Race – well inside the cutoff for the 2014 Bassmaster Classic.

"It was a good tournament points-wise and I'm happy with the finish."

The Big Bite Lookback, which focuses on the angler who's first out of the final cut at each tour-level event, is brought to you by the great folks at Big Bite Baits.
