Double helical = cool construction

Double helical = cool construction

Interesting announcement today from Pinnacle. The company long known for its reels continues its major push into tournament-grade rods with its new Tournament Class Perfecta bass rods. The rods feature Pinnacle's proprietary Double Helical Construction (DHC5) and all the lengths and actions are at the specs of Pinnacle's tour-level staff that includes Dave Wolak, Paul Elias, John Crews, Grant Goldbeck and Britt Meyers.

The DHC5 process begins with high-density carbon tape wrapped around the length of a mandrel. Next, layers of high-modulus, uni-directional graphite prepreg, without glass scrim, are applied over the initial carbon-tape wrap. Normally, eliminating scrim would result in a rod that's too brittle, but according to Pinnacle, that's not the case with DHC5. Blank strength is reinforced by rolling another layer of high-density carbon tape over the graphite prepreg core, in the opposite direction of the first carbon wrap. This unique construction allows Pinnacle to eliminate not only glass scrim, but also much of the resin, which makes for a lighter rod. For extra protection, Perfecta rods also receive a two-part, slow-curing, heavy epoxy coating.

The rods retail for $159.99 to $189.99. For more about the construction method, or to check out the available models, click here.
