Wind, beds & Yelas

The Hartwell FLW Tour Major kicks off tomorrow, and good thing the field takes its day of rest today. The National Weather Service issued a lake-wind advisory for the area with westerly gusts up to 35 mph. It's the front end of a cold system sweeping into the area and the temperatures will drop significantly drop over the next few days, with nighttime lows into the 30s.

The field practiced under near-record high temps, with days pushing into the mid-80s, so it's a big-time cold front coming through. But as the Harris Chain proved, that probably won't be enough to keep the fish off the beds, because the males are already there and the females are coming. The west wind could ruin any main-lake or secondary banks on the east side of the lake though.

According to Jay Yelas, as much as 75% of the boats will sight-fish tomorrow at Hartwell. For more about how the whole tournament is setting up, click here to go On Tour With the BassFan Big Sticks.
