Jay Yelas – Practice

Fishing has been really tough. The water temperature's about 60 and it's real clear – there's very little stain – and that's not good for the shallow bite.

The deep bite has been tough too. I'd expect this thing to be won deep, but we've got some big storms coming with rain and wind, and that might enhance the shallow bite.

The rain could bring the lake up 2 feet, so practice probably doesn't mean a lot due to the changing conditions. My practice has been slow. I've caught three of four keepers each day, and most of the people I've talked to have struggled.

If a guy can catch five keepers a day for 4 days, I think he'll win the tournament. I look for maybe 30 or so limits on day 1. It's probably going to be the toughest tournament I've fished all year.

I've got fish both deep and shallow, but I'll lean on the shallow fish the first day because of all the rain.
