Jay Yelas – Practice

I've been catching some. It's an interesting lake and I've never been to one quite like it. It's kind of a highland reservoir with steep banks everywhere. There are some creeks that have some largemouth in them, but the (lake's water level) is so high that I don't think they're going to come into play.

I haven't been able to get the largemouth going, but there's some big smallmouth in here and I've had a couple of days where I've caught a couple of keepers. They were 19-inch fish that were 4 or 4 1/2 pounds. Nobody's going to catch five of those for 4 days in a row, but they're definitely going to be a huge factor.

From the guys I've talked to and from what my own fishing has told me, the smallmouths are going to be more of a factor than the largemouths. There are quite a few spots too, and a lot of them are on beds, a lot of 2 1/4- and 2 1/2-pound fish. There are very few largemouth on the beds and I haven't seen any smallmouth on beds.

Tomorrow I'm going to start on bedding fish and catch what I can before they all get picked off, then I'll go for big smallmouth later in the day.

I feel pretty good about my practice. I have one area where I've caught four big smallies, so I know they live around there, and I have some other stuff going on smaller fish.
