I Hadn't Seen It All

Tuesday, December 11, 2007

There's an old saying that whatever you've seen, you haven't (and never will) see it all. After 10 years of writing this opinion piece on a regular not-very-regular basis, I can recount some doozies that we've all seen together, and so can you.

But I've never seen such as I saw the other day. What in the heck is BASS thinking? This decision on the juniors is, allow me to be blunt, the stupidest thing I've ever witnessed in the sport of bass fishing.

So what if the program needs to be realigned (or whatever corporate-speak we can throw at it)? So what if there's "greater growth potential" in a new plan?

So what if so what?

The bottom line is that this is simply dense thinking – the kind of thing a dunce would come up with. These are kids for crying out loud. Kids that LIKE TO FISH. Like to fish instead of do all the other stuff that some kids do. Like to fish so much that they put their hearts into making their dream of fishing with the Elite pros come true. Like to fish so much that their families put money and time into the dream also, along with members of their local bass clubs, and all in the spirit of the program that you promoted.

Keep your end of the bargain. Change the program if you must, but not (I know this is hard for you) in midstream. Just once can you do that?

Because (and I'm not playing favorites, but this is true), FLW would never dream up such a callous. uncaring bunch of horse snot as this deal is. Not in a million years.

BASS has a chance to have a "what were we thinking" moment, followed by a very sincere "we're sorry."

For the love of Pete, take it and move on. Then hire someone, anyone, who can keep you away from the biggest danger you face – your own ability to not only step in it, but also to create the pile that you step in to begin with.

Lordy, I thought I'd seen it all.
