Remitz Clear Leader Still

Derek Remitz logged a 20th at last week's Grand Lake Bassmaster Elite Series and the face of the BassFan Rookie of the Year race remains virtually unchanged near the top.

Neither Remitz, nor anyone else within the Top 5, switched positions. Remitz did extend his lead slightly though – from about 20 to about 24 points.

If anyone has a shot to catch Remitz, it's probably 2nd-place Casey Ashley or 3rd-place Bryan Thrift. But Ashley followed up his win at Smith Mt. with a 60th at Grand, which didn't help his cause. It also diminished his edge over Thrift, which now sits at a little more than a point.

Thrift, and FLW Tour rookie, didn't fish Grand.

Scott Campbell finished 42nd at Grand and climbs a spot. He's part of a three-way tie for 6th.

Jason Williamson and Marty Robinson are the others tied for 6th. Williamson finished 31st at Grand and climbs two spots.

Robinson also climbs two spots with a 7th at Grand. Robinson was neck-in-neck with Grand winner Kevin VanDam for 3 days, but stumbled on day 4.

About the ROY Race
The BassFan Rookie of the Year Race/Award recognizes the best rookie in all of tour-level professional fishing for the current year or season. Unlike the league rookie races, only true rookies are eligible: To qualify as a rookie for the BassFan race, a tour angler cannot have fished the pro (boater) side of any Bassmaster or FLW tour/series-level event before.

  • BassFan Rookie of the Year Race points are calculated using a methodology loosely similar to the BassFan World Rankings (points based on finish with bonuses given for winning and finishing high). Only regular-season events count. Championships do not.

  • The BassFan Rookie of the Year Race was created in 2002 as the first rookie race in professional bass fishing. Like Rookie of the Year awards in all sports, it recognizes top-performing newcomers to the professional ranks.
