The Society of Fishing Professionals' (SFP) first tournament scheduled for Sept. 26-29 on the upper Chesapeake Bay (Md.) is cancelled, SFP president John Uhler said.

"Given the state of things, B.A.S.S. and FLW made sound decisions" to cancel their tournaments, he said. And because all the pros are going home, the chances of many of them coming back to fish the SFP tournament are low.

Military Area Off Limits

"It's prudent also to wait and see what will happen in terms of the country," Uhler noted, referring to the semi-state-of-war the country is in.

Notably, much of the upper Chesapeake is off-limits to boat traffic per order of the U.S. military. The reason is the Aberdeen Proving Grounds bomb area. Apparently the military wants no one near it.

Lanier in November

Though SFP will doubtless return to the upper Chesapeake at some point, Uhler said the first SFP tournament will be the already-scheduled event on Georgia's Lake Lanier, Nov. 14-17.
