That's what Kermit the Frog used to say, anyway, and if you had a day like popular young pro Keith Green did yesterday, you'd feel the same way.

Yesterday Green had by far the biggest jump in pounds caught, putting together 21-12 after weighing in just 6-15 on day 1 (with 3 dead fish).

"The first day I went fishing where I thought I could catch 18-20 pounds," Green said. His plan was to fish for bedding fish using a soft jerkbait. "But overnight the females moved out and the males came back." He caught just 8-plus pounds before the dead fish penalties.

Change Is Good

He knew that wasn't good enough, so on day 2 he changed. In fact, he did a 180.

"I went Rat-L-Trap fishing for post-spawn fish in deeper water," he said. Man, did it work. His biggest bass was a 6-14, and a competitor in a nearby boat caught a 7-07. "Some giants are out there," Green said.

The best part is that he believes his pattern -- including a 50-yard, mussel-bed sweetspot -- will be unaffected by any weather changes, and will hold up for another two days.

VanDam, Nixon Out

Unfortunately, the same could not be said of the patterns of Kevin VanDam and Larry Nixon, both of whom were affected by the wind yesterday.

Nixon, in 9th on day 1 with 14-09, caught just 7-03 yesterday. That gave him 21-12, which put him about 3 1/2 pounds out of 20th.

"It was pretty tough where I was," he said. "The wind was blowing out of the Southeast and it messed up the areas I was fishing a bit. The wind changed the water color up there, and these fish don't like a lot of wind on them this time of year, when they're trying to bed."

Nixon added that his bite got better in the afternoon of day 1, and though he hoped for the same on day 2, it didn't happen.

VanDam Foiled by Canals

Though VanDam fished water protected from the wind, for some reason it muddied up on him yesterday. "I spent the whole morning without getting a bite," he said. "I didn't catch one until 11:00."

After that he caught a couple of limits, but 2-pounders were the biggest ones he could get to bite. "I just didn't catch the big fish," VanDam said. "I missed the cut by 1 1/2 pounds. One 3-pounder would have done it for me."

He was perplexed about why the area he was fishing kept getting muddier even though it was sheltered from the wind, and finally figured it out. "The difference between this lake and other lakes is that this has a rim canal around it. So if the wind blows, it creates current in the rim canal," he said. "The water in the canal is dirtier, and there are cuts off the canal that push dirty water (into lake areas).

"You don't have to deal with that on any other lakes," VanDam noted.
