Confidence builder, go-to bait, do-or-die bait, if you only had one bait to use. All of these terms equal confidence bait in my mind. Early on I tried to soak up every bit of fishing knowledge whether it be reading, VHS, or dock talk. That being said, I felt confident throwing just about every bait or tactic that was happening in the late '80s early '90s. But yes, there is always that one bait I fell back on when the going got tough.
After practically living on the water in those years, in 2005 I stopped fishing altogether. Did not even pick up a rod again until October 2018. Starting back up, I have to purchase all new equipment once again. Pretty long story just to mention my confidence bait. Oh, If you can find it, Paul Elias VHS tape on worm fishing from 1980-something, some good worming knowledge there. Okay, confidence bait, the first bait I again had to purchase getting back into bass fishing was the Gary Yamamoto Hula Grub You an fish any color to match water clarity, can fish any depth due to jig weight, can fish fast or slow depending on water temperature. Just an all-around fish-catching confidence bait for me.
