Brian Metry, of Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich., caught 23-05 today to open with the lead at the Bassmaster Detroit River Northern Open.
His stringer was good enough for a 5-ounce lead over Jason Christie, an FLW Tour pro who’s fishing the Opens this year in an attempt to qualify for next year’s Bassmaster Classic at Grand Lake, his home water.
Ryan Cooper caught 22-06 for 3rd. A total of 12 bags came in at 20 pounds or more as the smallmouth bite at Lake St. Clair lived up to its advanced billing.
