Veteran Western bass writer George Kramer will be inducted into the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame on March 8 during a ceremony at the Fred Hall Outdoor Show in Long Beach, Calif. Western angler Bill Siemantel, of Big Bass Zone fame, will emcee the event.
"You know, if they gave me half an hour of acceptance time, it would take every minute to list all those publishers, editors, writers, photographers, fellow fishermen, Fish & Game biologists, industry connections, friends and family who helped me somewhere along the way," he said. "And what about the readers who stayed with me?
"Even without this recognition, I have been blessed and consider myself most fortunate to have had such a career."
Kramer started his career in 1973 with a story about a local lure-maker – a seven-time heart-attack victim – who was expanding his business. Since then, his columns in Western Outdoor News and Fishing & Hunting have become some of the most-read features in those publications.
He produced a coffee-table book, "Bass Fishing – An American Tradition" in 1990, and in 2001 teamed up with noted angler Don Iovino to write "Finesse Bass Fishing and the Sonar Connection."
