The Tulsa World newspaper reported this morning that Grand Lake near Tulsa, Okla. will host the 2013 Bassmaster Classic. Tulsa World outdoors writer Kelly Bostian names Grand Lake in this story published early today and quotes Ray Hoyt, senior vice president of VisitTulsa and the Tulsa Sports Commission.
Rumors of a potentially frigid 2013 Oklahoma Classic have circulated since at least early August, and the Tulsa (Okla.) Sports Commission has scheduled a press conference for 11 a.m. CT today at the Bank of Oklahoma Center (pictured to right).
What's especially interesting about Tulsa is that it has quietly served and grown as a bass-fishing power center over the past decade. Tulsa is home to Winnercomm, which formerly worked closely with B.A.S.S., is now owned by the Outdoor Channel and is a driving force behind Major League Fishing. Zebco/Quantum is a Tulsa company, as are Bassin' magazine, Lowrance electronics, Gene Larew Lures and Dynamic Sponsorships, which handles promotion and sponsorship for Toyota, BoatUS and other leading brands.
