Mustad has added two new versions of the wildly successful UltraPoint KVD Elite Triple Grip Treble to meet angler needs for a broader range of applications. Both were designed by the world's top-ranked angler and Mustad pro-staffer Kevin VanDam.
“The trebles have made all the difference in my ability to win back-to-back Classics and Angler of the Year titles,” VanDam said. “In the last year alone, I’ve won more than a million dollars using these hooks.”
The hook design features a unique wide bend and power angle point that makes it virtually
impossible for fish to throw.
“In both Classic victories, I never lost a fish. The hooking and holding ability of this treble design is by far the most advanced I’ve ever fished. But there are some topwater and longer stick-bait applications where a lighter wire and longer shank are more desirable.”
The Triple Grip Trebles are now available in three options (click the image to see a larger version):
> Standard wire diameter, standard shank length, sizes 1/0 through 8 (great for topwater, jerkbaits, finesse and suspending baits).
> 1X strong wire, standard shank length, sizes 1/0 through 8 (an excellent option for larger baits and topwaters in situations in which hook-tangling is not an issue).
> 1X strong wire, 2X short shank, sizes 3/0 through 8 (avoids tangling, beefier wire adds strength to help pull fish out of heavy cover).
The company has also developed a round-bend UltraPoint replacement treble at the request of Denny Brauer and other pro-staffers.
“I’m a big fan of this treble design for bigger, diving crankbaits,” said Brauer. “It doesn’t compromise lure action and for folks who prefer a round-bend treble, it doesn’t get any better than this.”
Created as an all-purpose replacement treble, it features a standard wire diameter and a standard shank length. It's available in sizes 2 through 8.
