Junior Worlds to La.

Junior Bassmasters, ages 11 to 14 and 15 to 18, will compete against each other within their age groups Saturday, Nov. 5 on Bayou DeSiard out of Monroe, La., for the 2011 Bassmaster Junior World Championship. The competition will be held in conjunction with the B.A.S.S. Federation Nation Championship at the Ouachita River.

Six competitors from each of the two age groups will vie for bragging rights, and all participants will receive scholarships to be used for education, with amounts determined by their finish.

Six new Skeeter/Yamaha rigs — which will be driven by adult Federation Nation volunteers — will be provided for the championship. The volunteers are not permitted to provide any information to the young anglers; they can observe and drive only.

Young anglers advance through a number of qualifying rounds on the local, state and divisional levels to qualify for the Junior World Championship. Competitors are paired according to the divisions from which they qualified.

“I think these young competitors are really going to enjoy Bayou DeSiard and Monroe, La.,” said Jon Stewart, B.A.S.S. Federation Nation tournament manager. “Bayou DeSiard is a unique fishery. It is a public fishery but has limited access and no public boat ramps. These Junior Bassmasters should have the time of their lives."
