Andy Morgan failed to catch a limit on day 1 of last week's Forrest Wood Cup at Lake Ouachita in Arkansas and it appeared as if the Tennessee veteran, who was buried in 35th place in a field of 58 anglers, would merely fish another day and then bow out.

Not so fast.

He walloped an 18-15 sack on day 2 and catapulted all the way to 4th. He struggled again on day 3, but staged another rally on the final day to end up 5th in the final tally.

He said he fished pretty much the same way on day 2 that he had on day 1 (primarily throwing a Reaction Innovations Vixen topwater bait), but the conditions helped him. He needed the sun.

"That was definitely a factor, and I also got out closer to the main lake," he said. "The first day I fished the creeks a little more and I had some good bites – I could've had a big stringer – but I lost a couple.

"When the sun came out they took the bait better and it positioned them closer to the bank. I only moved about a half mile that second day, but one key was that I didn't lose any of the bigger fish. I was just lucky enough to run into five or six of those wolfpacks and catch a good fish out of each of them."
