New B.A.S.S. brass

Ever since "The Sale," there's been some question about who would head up B.A.S.S.'s digital media and what direction it would take. B.A.S.S. answered one of those questions today when it announced the hire of Jim Sexton as chief digital officer.

Sexton's clearly of Don Logan lineage. A current Birmingham, Ala. resident, Sexton was most recently the principal of Sexton Digital Media, which helped companies such as Meredith Corporation and Scripps Networks develop websites and social-media products. Prior to that, Sexton was VP of edit and product development for Time Inc. Lifestyle Digital in Birmingham. There he led eight websites and managed the Digital Video Studio, which produced more than 3,000 original web videos. He also served as senior VP of interactive brands for Scripps Networks, where he led the strategy and content of Scripps sites associated with HGTV and DIY networks.

The news all but confirmed that B.A.S.S. has chosen Birmingham for its new home this fall.

Sexton noted: "Bassmaster.com, on a new platform since last winter, has had a lot of great work done on it recently. I want to build on that, and take advantage of all the online opportunities that are now in front of us to increase the Bassmaster.com audience and its revenues as well. I see so many opportunities — and to some degree, deciding which ones to take first will be our challenge, as it is for most digital organizations. I'm excited to be a part of that, and to join a company led by an ownership team I have the utmost respect for."

Logan stated: "We're fortunate to have Jim join us and be part of all the plans we have for B.A.S.S. He has a stellar track record in growing digital-media brands, and he also has a deep background in editorial and traditional print media."
