Alabama Bassmaster Elite Series angler Steve Kennedy used some of his time off between tournaments to do some fishing in the Gulf of Mexico out of Panama City, Fla. He caught this 20-pound red snapper last week while fishing with brother Travis, 10-year-old nephew Logan and friend Rick Werner (at left in photo).
The fish, and a bunch of others in the 8- to 12-pound class, had to be released as the 48-day harvest season for red snapper doesn't begin until Wednesday (June 1).
"I highly recommend getting down there to the Gulf Coast," Kennedy said. "I've never seen the snapper fishing this good in my life."
The big one was taken in 100 feet of water about 12 miles offshore on a live cigar minnow.
