Big Bite Lookback – Red River

Jason Christie was the 11th-place finisher at the recent Red River FLW Tour in Louisiana, and thus first out of the final day cut. If he could start day 3 over again, the winner of this spring's Tour event at Hartwell and also the PAA All Star Series event at Lake Ray Hubbard knows exactly what he'd do.

"It was one of those tournaments where I tried to outsmart myself," he said. "I'd kind of figured out how to catch them on the main river where it was real muddy, but I didn't want to believe in that and I wanted to stay in the backwaters like everybody else was doing."

He fished an oxbow until 10:00 on day 3 without getting a bite. Then he went to the channel and caught a limit within an hour, but regrettably turned around and went right back to the backwater locale, where he again went biteless.

His 6-08 bag left him 11 ounces shy of Jon Strelic, who was the last angler into the Top 10.

"If I'd stayed on the main river, I know I could've culled enough to make the cut."

He caught his main-river fish on a Booyah spinnerbait and fished a frog in the oxbows.

"I wanted to make it happen with the frog, but the wind blew 20 to 25 mph every day and it just wasn't possible."
