June will be an eventful month for Ott DeFoe, to say the least.
In his first year on the Bassmaster Elite Series, the Tennessean is in 7th place in the
Toyota Tundra B.A.S.S. Angler of the Year (AOY) race heading into the final two events and is still in contention for the points title. Of much greater significance, sometime during the month, wife Jennie will deliver twins.
The couple hopes the big event will occur shortly after the regular-season finale (June 16-19 at Lake Wheeler). The pregnancy will reach full term (37 weeks) on June 15, but with twins, there's always the possibility that they'll outgrow the womb and necessitate an early delivery.
"We're going to try to hold off until I get home on the 20th or 21st," he said. "As long as everybody stays in place and nobody moves, then that's when they'll come.
"So long as everything's good at home and everybody's healthy, this is a lot of motivation (to fish well). But if there's anything going on to be worried about, then I might not be able to focus as well."
The DeFoes already have a daughter, Abbie, who'll turn 4 on June 5. They'll soon welcome their first son (Parker, named in honor of Hank) and another daughter (Elizabeth).
"Abbie thinks they're going to be born on her birthday, but we're really hoping that doesn't happen."
