The recent Murray Bassmaster Elite Series in South Carolina created a ton of up/down movements in the standings nearly every day. That's because the bite was tough and one 4-pounder went a long way. At the same time, anyone who could fill out a limit with some good 3-pounders made a big jump as well.
Amongst all the up/down movements, none was more dramatic than the ascent of Edwin Evers on day 3. Not only did Evers' 36-spot climb to 9th put him inside the Top-12 cut, but it delivered a huge boost for Evers in the Toyota Trucks B.A.S.S. Angler of the Year race, where he's now 4th and within 55 points of the leader.
Evers' day-3 catch totaled 18-08, which was the heaviest limit of the tournament. He said the difference that day was he boated his fish.
"I was fishing a Yum Money Minnow in blue hologram as fast as I could reel it," Evers noted. "Fishing that way, you don't always weigh them all, and I had some mules on. Once the wind really started blowing a bunch, that helped me. I was still getting the fish to eat it those first 2 days, but they weren't eating it good. They smoked it that third day and (fourth day) when the wind was blowing."
