According to BassFan friend Steve Rockweiler – a bass-fishing legend of sorts in and around the Louisiana Delta – the tank ponds where Kevin VanDam won the recent Bassmaster Classic are getting hammered.
"I knew whoever had the knowledge and experience to build enough confidence to just stay in that area would be rewarded, and ol' KVD had all that in spades," Rockweiler said. "Kinda sad though. Those pros always open these local guys' eyes. That place is getting pounded. The launch operator at Pier 90 told me Saturday morning when I finally got a chance to head out that he lost track of all the 7s, 8s and 9s that were taken out of there last week. I stopped counting at 120 boats in the tank pond on Saturday.
"Every single fisherman was throwing guess what? A KVD chartreuse/black 1.5 square-lip crank. I went to another locale a few miles from there and wound up with five bass for just over 31 pounds."
