Fantasy Fishing: beefier

FLW Outdoors today announced details of its 2011 Fantasy Fishing game and opened the game for play. While there's still no $1 million prize like in the past, the prizes are beefier this year.

The game, which is played across the 10-event FLW season, is partly underwritten by presenting sponsor Straight Talk – a Walmart-exclusive, pay-as-you-go TracFone wireless service.

The prize structure looks like this:

> Each Tour event offers a $25,000 purse with a $15,000 1st-place prize.

> Cumulative grand prize is $100,000.

> Cumulative 2nd-place prize is a Ranger Z-520 with a Ranger Trail Trailer, 250 Mercury outboard, Minn Kota Maxxum 80 trolling motor, Lowrance electronics and trolling motor batteries (all valued at $54,000).

> Cumulative 3rd-place prize is a Chevy 1500 Silverado valued at $38,000. Cumulative 4th place is a FinCraft 17 Dual Console boat with a 115 Evinrude valued at $27,000. Cumulative 5th place is a BRP Can-Am Outlander 400 ATV valued at $8,000. Cumulative 6th- through 10-place prizes are Walmart gift cards ranging from $9,000 to $5,000.

FLW Outdoors chairman and CEO Irwin Jacobs said in announcing the news: "Fantasy Fishing is something we've put a lot of time and effort into and feel it's one of our best undertakings. The participation from the fans is unbelievable, and with the game being played all over the world, it's helped build the sport and bring recognition to the anglers and our partners."

The announcement included confirmation that Scott Canterbury and JT Kenney had been named to the Straight Talk/TracFone fishing team.

Players can sign up for the game at FantasyFishing.com.
