BASS shutters FTR, Insider

Significant changes have already come to the B.A.S.S. media platforms.

First, 18-year JM Associates employee Angie Thompson was named B.A.S.S. director of digital content development. Thompson's background is decidedly within TV content, but she noted: "As we all know, digital's becoming more and more relevant every day. I'm excited to take what I know about content and apply it to a different platform. The way I was raised in working for Jerry was to be a good storyteller, and you can tell good stories in so many different ways. Now I'm going to tell stories on a digital platform. The core values are the same."

Additionally, B.A.S.S. confirmed today that its Fishing Tackle Retailer publication will close, as will its B.A.S.S. Insider premium-content service.

A B.A.S.S. official told BassFan: "Fishing Tackle Retailer is being closed. The decision allows the organization to focus on our core audience – the B.A.S.S. member. B.A.S.S. will continue to use its media platforms to support the endemic industry and we're in conversation with interested parties who are interested in buying the magazine."

As a result, Fishing Tackle Retailer editor Ronnell Smith will not continue with B.A.S.S.

About the closure of Insider, the same B.A.S.S. official said: "The decision allows the organization to focus on providing innovative content and services to all B.A.S.S. members. Existing Insider members are important customers and will be offered concessions to compensate for the loss of the product."
