Craig Schuff, a 49-year-old Texan who was a Federation qualifier for the 1996 Bassmaster Classic, has opted to compete on the Bassmaster Elite Series next year in the wake of his 3rd-place finish in the 2010 Central Open points.
"It's just something I figured I should do," the insurance salesman said. "I didn't want to get a year or 2 or even 5 years down the road and look back and wish I had. Plus, I'm starting to fish pretty good again and hopefully I can do fairly well."
He won this year's Central Open event at Amistad and notched a 2nd at the Red River, but a 48th in the finale at Texoma left him one spot shy of his second Classic appearance.
His rookie-year sponsors will include Skeeter and MotorGuide, along with a local boat dealer and a heating and air conditioning service.
